An experienced minister writes to a younger one; Paul prays for and encourages the rookie. We call the letter Second Timothy.
Mentoring is an important part of spiritual formation for all Jesus-followers. The process involves many components, but prayer and encouragement are vital.
I thank God for mentors past and present in my life, both personal and professional. Experienced Christians have cared for me, taught me, and supported me. Like Paul does for Timothy, they’ve prayed for me and encouraged me.
That mentoring has equipped me to serve as a mentor, especially in campus ministry and now in my upcoming broader ministry role. I need to remember that two of the most important gifts I can give to those I mentor are prayer and encouragement.
